I found out about this extension today, it lets you modify a webpage to look or feel how you like. I'm sure this is gonna piss some website designers off. Mind you it could leave a person open to a malicious script that could possibly hack into your computer. There is also a blog about it here

Now I'm always surfing the net looking for weird and wonderfull stuff to rant and rave about and this one got my attention FRIGGIN' HUGELY!!!!!!! This is what you call a out of control situation with a franchise that should have head office comming down on them like ugly on an ape :) holy crap people you gotta do something about this.... HELLLOOOO HEAD OFFICE ANYONE HOME?????? I've heard of rogue employees before but a rogue franchise? this pizza hut in Apache Junction Arizona is like a bad soprano's episode.. you have to read it to belive it. management abusing employees and stealing from them and dealing drugs? sheesh.. now i'm only going by what i'm reading on this site so i'll let you read it for yourself and shake your head.....

Well I must say I am most impressed with this new version of Netscape (Ugly GUI aside, but I am getting used to it) This version i do believe will be the new killer app. After all how many browsers out there can support two rendering engines? (for the unschooled that's the guts of your web browser it takes all the weird ass html code and makes the page you are looking at) Really when you think about it it merely takes a simple mouse click to change from the Gecko engine (Netscape) to the Trident engine (Micro$oft) so really it's a moot point needing Internet Explorer. Yes it does work with Windows Update. So all you really have to do is make Netscape your default Browser and delete the shortcut on the taskbar to the windows update manager and create a new one that goes directly to Windows update and Bob's your uncle :) Of course there will be some people out there that whine about software bloat but really .... It is a beta . Who cares when you have a 100Gb Hard drive on your machine and if you got the hardware I'm pretty sure you got the bandwidth to download the install file. One thing to remember is that when comparing Netscape to Firefox is that Netscape comes with allot of extras already built in, where as Firefox you need to install extensions to get extras. Don't get me wrong I like extensions and I think it's a great thing to have. I use them allot if you look at my prior posts. I'm sure the code will be thinned down in time, I'm sure there's a phone home code built in that reports what is going on when you use it... (CONSPIRACY CONSPIRACY hahahahahahahahahahaha ) thus the fatness of the code. I've come back from the dark side I almost exclusively use Netscape or Firefox now very rarely will I use Internet Explorer. Oh just remember kids just because there aren't any security holes right now doesn't mean there won't be any in the future.The more popular a browser is the more likely some wank will exploit a hole thats found in it. So happy surfing kids and make some comments I like a bit of discussion... after all that's why I ramble on here eh?

Fasten Your Seatbelts Time to Learn

Hokay as i was saying in my last posting I was going to learn y'all about making Firefox Extensions work with Netscape 8. To be quiet honest it's so easy it'll make you wonder why you didn't figure it out before (at least the uber geeks in the crowd will think that) first things first.... Every Extension is in reality just a fancy zip file so instead of it being called "file.zip" it's called "file.xpi" it's how Firefox and Netscape know you are trying to install a extension and not dump some crap in the program :) Inside of every extension (xpi file) there is a file called install.rdf this is a text file that can be opened and modified by any text editor. ( I use wordpad to do this but you can use anything ) first thing you have to open the xpi file with a zip program. I use winzip due to ease of use I've also associated the xpi files with winzip so that it starts when i click on the xpi file. when you have the program open just click on the install rdf file and it will open in your text editor (once you associate it with a text editing program. if you haven't done this windows will prompt you ) the next thing you want to do is look for this GUID in the file:

{ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384} <----------- Firefox GUID

what you will need to do is modify the GUID because this tells Netscape if it is compatible with it or not, so you have to change the GUID to this:

{3db10fab-e461-4c80-8b97-957ad5f8ea47} <----------- Netscape GUID

Once you have done that save the file and you will be prompted to update the file with the new RDF file. That's all there is to it... Simple huh? :) if you have any problems figureing it out just send me a e-mail and i'll do my best to help you

I betcha some people were thinking what a lame friggin' blog no updates for like a month.. and here i sit typing away trying to think of something to write. I guess you could say I had a severe case of writers block... DDDDUUUOOHHHHHH ..... Well at any rate i now have some ideas. I've been using Netscape 8 now for a while, which is based on Firefox 0.9.6 code for you uber geeks out there. but for you non geeks it just means that it's a version of firefox that has some eye candy (i.e. new look) took me forever but i finally figured out how to get extensions to work with Netscape. It would seem that not many people knew how to either judging by the amount of page views on the thread i started at the Netscape board. So i will share with all of you the magic of making Firefox extensions work with Netscape. So my next two postings will be all about the wonderful world of mozilla extensions. So fasten your seatbelts kids and start some learning :)

Have you ever had a random popup window appear from Empire poker? Even though you've got your popup blocker on or even when you don't have your browser even on... well I figured it out and mannnnnn do I feel like a git. This one one was beyond simple. What happened is that I visited a page called "Cannot find weapons of mass destruction" This page makes fun of the "404 error" page you will get when a page is moved, you can find it at http://www.coxar.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/. Anyways, I digress :) Well I thought this page was amusing so I e-mailed it to myself since i wasn't home and i left it in my inbox, well before you can say popup crap i get these popups appearing from empire poker. Being as I didn't even have my browser running I'm getting these damm windows popping up. well it turns up that when you visit this weapons of mass destruction site there is a javascript popup code in the page but if you have a popup blocker running it won't work. What i forgot about was that if you e-mail the page you will get a popup whenever you view the page in the preview pane in outlook express (good reason to use thunderbird kids). I found the code in the page and it is as follows:

Now for all you HTML Geeks out there this will be pretty obvious as to why this happens... to the HTML unschooled out there the script causes a window to spawn in the empire poker page whenever the page is viewed or in my case whenever the e-mail is viewed.

I hate those friggin' embedded contextual ad links . Why you ask? have you ever been to a website that has this hideous form of advertising in it? It seems that the damm thing is forever loading and if you happen to be one of the poor unfortunates that accidently hoveres over one of the contextual ad links. Then find your browser has come to a halt (almost) you will know why i hate these guys... Really it would make more sense if they wanted these things just to have a small tool tip that said "ad" and being as what words are being linked on the website it doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out what the ad is about...

Really if these guys are so hot why did Forbes magazine ditch them? Read about it here

Virtual Keyboard --- I want one for my Clie´

I've been hearing about this little gem for some time now. it's a device that projects a image of a keyboard on any flat surface and you can connect it to any device that can use a keyboard, for example a PDA or a cellphone. It projects a image onto a flat surface using a red diode laser but uses infrared technology to track finger movements and interpret them much like typing on a normal keyboard would. Slick Huh? It is designed to project a keyboard image on the area of a airplane seatback tray. It works on Pocket PC 2002 and 2003, Smartphone 2003, Palm OS versions 4.x and 5.x as well as Windows 98/NT/2000/XP. Now I'm not exactly a big fan of on line commerce being as you can never be fully confident on how secure your connection is or how secure your e-commerce site is now this story is living proof that you can't trust em to have good software either. Apparently paypal's opt out software on their server has a serious flaw that lets spammers get a hold of the members e-mail addresses. Read all about it here . So if you go on the opt out link and change a few numbers you can get someones e-mail address, helpful if you're a spammer huh?

Well I was at my girl friends annual christmas party on the weekend. Yeah I know it's January but since she works for a hotel they are usually full on christmas so the party is held in January. food was awesome two buck drinks were awesome :) land they gave us a cheap hotel room to boot. So everyone has a great time and no one gets hurt. My hat's off to the hotel (won't name it in case they have issues about me writing about it) So there is the explanation as to why I haven't wrote anything the last few days , now on to finding some tech type stuff to write about

I'm finding that trying to do any updates today is in a word "frustrating" so that's why you'll find not a heck of a lot here today my loyal fan base (Hey I can dream can't I?). I'll work on the assumption that there are some server issues or perhaps software updates. If anyone can enlighten me let me know. Woohooo google outsmarts the spammers

Yesterday Google came up with a new kewl way to stop people or spammers from artificially raising their search rankings on their websites by making a new tag that gets auto inserted into any link that is put in a comment section of a blog or a forum, thus preventing the spammers or other types i.e. wankers :) from raising their standings in the search engines. All the major search engines are coming on board. An example of the tag is as follows:

Visit my <a href="http://www.looser.com/">looser</a> site.

would be changed to:

Visit my <a href="http://www.looser.com/" rel="nofollow">looser</a> site.

you'll notice a new tag is added called rel="no follow" this tells search engines not to index the link. Read more about at the Google weblog

I was poking around MSFN , one of my more favorite websites to look around at and I read this article and apparently some wanker has written a virus that when it appears in your inbox the subject is: "Tsunami donation! Please help!" and then you are asked to open an attachment called "tsunami.exe" once you open it you are infected and then it tries to infect other people. Go to MSFN to read the full story.

I have seen this on numerous websites and I feel that I must put it on my blog. It is the code amber alert. to find out more information go to the code amber website at www.codeamber.org there you can get a ticker to put on your website or your blog for free and it can be for either the United States or Canada. If one child is found because of these banners then it is well worth it. Unfortunatly my blog does not allow the java script in the alerts to be run here so I will have to find a diffrent way to put it up on the blog but please click on the banner and go to the site.

Microsoft: you either gotta love 'em or hate 'em but i must say I like this product... nothing like a little piece of technology that saves you the hassle of trying to remember passwords. I have to get me one of these biometric readers. Think of it no typing just place your fat little digit on a reader and presto chango you're into your website, computer ECT..... Not to mention it seems to be relatively inexpensive. I have bought Microsoft hardware before and I like the stuff, there may be problems with their software but I’ve got the first generation MS natural keyboard on one of my computers and it works flawlessly. Also have two different optical mice. No problems either. So yes I'm a Microsoft hardware fan.... Let the flaming begin kids hahahahaha

Now here is something I’ve not seen before and I’ve seen all sorts of viruses before, not that I claim to be a virus expert because I’m not. After you read this I hope you think twice before you download and try out a game without doing a antivirus scan on it first. This interesting variation of a worm masquerades as a game of Tetris. While it is running it tries to spread across networks and infect other computers. So while you play Tetris it tries to merrily infect....... nnnniiccceeeee......

I have found this Kewl thing on the web that is made for weblogs. They call it Tags to quote Technorati they say: "Think of a tag as a simple category name. People can categorize their posts, photos, and links with any tag that makes sense.” So in a nutshell if you have a blog and you are a member (another freebee YEAH!!!!!) your site will be categorized with other blogs with the same topics. It’s explained more in depth here. You'll also notice I’ve got a search box on the right side here so that you can either search my blog or all blogs for a similar topic. I've signed up and hopefully i've got it setup right. Then again it doesn't matter if i haven't since that's what being a geek is all about :) I'm sure i'll have it all figured out in now time. Geekness at it's kewlest I must say.

It is friggin' cold up here in Kelowna today. How cold you ask? Well cold enough I don't even want to leave the damm house. Yeah yeah yuk it up those of you in the North East United States or Northern Canada, i'm sure you're giving me a collective "WWoooosssss" :) but to those in the crowd who don't know what -26 Celsius is i'll let you know that that works out to -15 Fahrenheit. Well if I'm to believe Wikipedia (gotta love free stuff) this is what they say: A geek is a person who is fascinated, perhaps obsessively, by technology and imagination. Geek may not always have the same meaning as the term nerd. hmmmm yeah i guess that describes me i suppose, as i sit here watching the idiot box laying on the bed typing on my wireless laptop.... yeah yeah i know who cares :) Yes folks I am a slave to technology.... especially computers. as i find interesting things out on the net you'll find links to them here.
